The Wanamaker Diary -- January

JANUARY

Fri., January 1, 1932

We went up to Mr Runyons last night & stayed until 1 A.M. to see the New Year come in We did not get up very early. I was sick all forenoon. Effie Stewart came down to eat dinner with us. We had duck and everything that went with it.

Sat., January 2, 1932

Mary went to Ann Keyser for lunch and

Sun., January 3, 1932

Mary and I went to Sunday School and Church. Then came home and Ethel went to Mrs Price to an afternoon tea
Mary & I went Church in the P.M.

Mon., January 4, 1932

Ethel took Mary to School she went to Gym.
Kittie Cheatham took her lesson this a.m. Ethel took me to the Doctor. received word that J.Q.B. was very sick. Ethel sent a ck. of $10.00 to him or to Grace Newcom

Tue., January 5, 1932

Ethel took Mary to School
Effie Stewart [had] her for dinner & was busy all day sewing We went shopping in the a.m. bought Mary 2 pair of stockings and one pair for me pd. .35 for mine. bought Mary pr of gloves for .85

Ethel took Mary to school

Thu., January 7, 1932

Ethel took Mary to School then Mr Work came to talk business with Ethel then she took Mary to her dancing lesson. we then played flinch in the evening

Fri., January 8, 1932

Ethel took Mary to school Gave kittie a lesson and we went after Mary while it pourd down rain We stayed home all afternoon Ethel & Mary went to Hotel [Great] Northern to see a trip round the world movie I wrote Grace Newcom.

Sat., January 9, 1932

It rained all day and we were here in the house all day.

Sun., January 10, 1932

Mary and I went to Sunday School & Church came home and we all went to Brooklyn to see the Sanfords we stayed for supper.

Ethel took Mary to school then gave Kittie her lesson

Tue., January 12, 1932

Ethel took Mary to school the weather is rainy and very warm

Wed., January 13, 1932

Ethel took Mary to school We then went up to Effie's she being sick in bed. Took her a cup custard. Mrs Reily & Ethel went to see Barretts of Wimpole St (Katherine Cornell) she stayed for dinner
This is the hottest day ever in January

Ethel took Mary to school And she took Mary to her dancing school in the P.M. Ethel went to Laura Erbs to play Bridge

Fri., January 15, 1932

Ethel took Mary to school then gave Kittie her lesson Jean gave Mary her first violin lesson this season

Sat., January 16, 1932

Ethel took Mary to school and then Mary went with the school to

Mrs. Alice Brown came to spend the evening stayed until 2 a.m.

Sun., January 17, 1932

Mary and I went to Church and sunday school

Mon., January 18, 1932

Ethel took Mary to school Kittie took her We had Ralph in to vacum the rooms & clean for us. Windows washed. We went up to see Effie Stewart in the evening.

Tue., January 19, 1932

Ethel took Mary to school we worked nearly all day took Mary out in the Park Mrs Alice Brown Called in the evening.

Ethel took Mary to school Ethel gave Mr Beall a lesson

Thu., January 21, 1932

Ethel took Mary to school Kittie Cheatham took her lesson Neda Millholm one lesson she pd. $2.00

Fri., January 22, 1932

Ethel took Mary to School Jean Stockwell gave Mary a violin lesson I went to the Doctor cost $3.00

Sat., January 23, 1932

Ethel took Mary to the Metropolitan Museum of art. Membership ticket given to Mary by Miss Duncan we stayed to Lunch at this place. The lecture was given on Nuremburg a little town in Germany given by Ann Curtis Chandler

Sun., January 24, 1932

Mary and I went to Sunday school did not stay for church Mary had too much home work to do Mrs Wilson came & took her to the Park for a walk

Mon., January 25, 1932

Ethel took Mary to school Mary went to her Swim. and Ethel & I went to hear Mr Burton lecture on Holland, Iceland, Germany & a few more Countrys Kittie gave a box party for Baroness Von Hindenburg Countes Von Hamilton Evlyn Byrd Cousin of Admiral Byrd Mrs Price Kittie C. Mrs Fisk
Kittie took her lesson in the a.m.

Mary went to school Ethel went to Essex Hotel with Mrs Reilly and Mrs Albertson

Ethel took Mary to school I went to the Doctor pd $3.00 we went out for lunch

Ethel took Mary to school then she took us to Mary's dancing class I stayed with her while Ethel went to call on Laura Erbs Mr Deall took his lesson in P.M. Kittie took her lesson AM.

Ethel took Mary to school she then took her violin lesson in the afternoon

Ethel took Mary and I to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the Morning. it rained just awful

Sun., January 31, 1932

Mary and I went to Sunday school. We then came back home and stayed here all the rest of the day we went to hear [Mr.] Burton give his lecture on Itly
